LELA SATTERFIELD has been teaching music and conducting choirs and orchestras in churches, chapels and schools since 1974.   She studied voice with renowned New York Metropolitan Opera star Marjorie Lawrence whose life was portrayed in the Academy Award-winning movie Interrupted Melody.  She also studied with Blanche Thebom of the Metropolitan Opera and the Armenian diva Arpine Pehlivanian.  

After completing her bachelor’s degrees, she earned teaching credentials and completed post-graduate work in both Music Education and English.  She has taught music and English in public and private schools and directed choirs, orchestras, bell choirs, drama teams, and community ensembles.  She was the director of worship at several churches and military chapels, as well as a children’s ministry coordinator and director of education.  She now serves as accompanist, soloist, and choir director for chapel services at the veterans home where her husband ministers as chaplain.  She teaches private and class piano, voice, guitar and woodwind lessons as well as theory and songwriting. 

Lela has composed songs, anthems, and children’s musicals performed in churches and schools across the United States.  She has directed the Children’s Musical Theater in which “every child gets a part!” for 25 years.  One of her musicals Pilgrim’s Progress, based on the classic book by John Bunyan, was featured in the plot of a mystery novel Delectable Mountains by Agatha Award-winning author Earlene Fowler.
