GOOD NEWS FOR TODAY

GOD LOVES YOU!  He created you on purpose.  The Bible says He formed you in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13).  Now He preserves your life moment by moment (vs. 18).  He also “longs to be gracious to you, and He waits on high to have compassion on you” (Isaiah 30:17-19 NASB).

But just a child disobeys and runs away from a parent, all of us sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 8:28).  We are not perfect; we have committed sins that hurt others and bring pain into our own lives.  These misdeeds separate us from God who is holy and perfect.

Our sins deeply grieve and offend God.  However, because He loves us, He made the ultimate sacrifice to save us from the consequences of sin.  He sent Jesus, His Son, to die on the cross.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 NASB).   Because Jesus paid the price, God has promised to forgive us when we confess our sins and believe in Him (I Peter 1:9).

The Good News doesn’t stop there.  Jesus rose from the grave to demonstrate His Deity and power over death for all who believe.  Then He returned to heaven to make an eternal home for us.  Someday in our resurrected bodies we will live in a universe filled with the glory of God, where there will be no evil, suffering, or death.

Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit dwells in each believer, giving us power and purpose every day.  We grow in our love for the Lord and others.  God transforms our lives!

No amount of good deeds or church attendance can earn eternal life.  But a simple prayer from the heart opens the door for God to come in.

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me.  I confess I have sinned against You.  Thank You sending Your Son, Jesus, to pay for my sins.  Please forgive me and come into my life.  Help me to live a life that honors You.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

If you prayed from your heart, God forgives you!  The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Your new life in Christ has just begun!
